A young man commits suicide under railway tracks near Nandikur
Padubidri, December 4th, 2013:  A young man was knocked down by a Mangalore bound "Mangalore Express" train from Mumbai at 11 o'clock in the morning around 1 km away from Nandikur railway station.  The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Sherigar from Katapadi.  He was a welder at Suzlon plant in Padubidri and after his duty he used to help his father Vittal Sherigar in his canteen at Katapadi.  However, instead of getting admitted to the hospital, he took only medications.  On Wednesday, he went to   ..   Read more
Children raise questions about 335 missing girls in undivided DK District
Padubidri, December 7th, 2013:  In the Children's Grama Sabha (Children's Village Meet) held on Saturday, December 7th, at Shri Mahalingeshwara Mahaganapathi temple hall, children raised questions about 335 missing girls in the undivided DK district and demanded action.  Yashaswini, a student from Sagar Vidya Mandir said, "I have seen in the newspaper dated 29th November that around 335 girls have disappeared from undivided DK district for the last three years," and demanded proper action to prevent this.  Read more

Mulki, December 12th, 2013:  The mahurat for Tulu telefilm "Barer Mokulu Beerer" based on the lives of men of miracles Kantabare and Boodabare of Ombathu Magane, is scheduled for Saturday, December 14th, at their birth place Tirthagudde at Kollur near Mulki, as announced by film writer-director Paramanand V. Padubidri, December 8th, 2013:  "Rasilla Friends" from Dombivili, Mumbai, won the finals of "Ocean Trophy-2013" inter-state invitations floodlit volleyball tournament organised by Kotyar Friends at Kotyar grounds near Murudi Brahmasthana in Padubidri on Saturday, December 7th.  In a thrilling final match, they defeated Chandini Friends team from Mulund, Mumbai, by a margin of 27-25, 28-26 and 1513.  The winners received the trophy and cash prize of Rs. 44,444 and the runners up received runners up trophy and cash prize of Rs. 22,222.  More

Mulki, December 15th, 2013:  The mahurat for maiden Tulu film on the life of Brahmashri Naryana Guru Swamiji was held at the premises of Shri Durgaparameshwari temple on Sunday, December 15th.  Popular Kannada actor "Challenging star" Darshan was the main attraction as he clapped the board for the first shot of the film.  The film is being produced by Rajshekhar Kotian.  MP Jayaprakash Hegde rolled the camera during mahurat.  Read more

Widening of Karkala road in progress at Padubidri
Padubidri, December 28th, 2013:  Widening of Padubidri-Karkala state highway stretch at Padubidri started off recently by felling the trees and levelling the northern side of the road.  The 27.8 km long Padubidri-Karkala stretch of the higway links NH-66 wtih NH-13 and it is being developed by the state government with the help of ADB (Asian Development Bank) loan.  The survey work had started back in October 2012.  Major work in Belman-Nitte stretch is going on at brisk pace and it is continuing at other stretches.     See more pictures
Thousands of people flock local beaches for a dip in the sea on account of Ellamavasye
Padubidri, January 2nd, 2014:  People flocked local beaches of Hejmady, Padubidri, Yermal and other places for a dip on account of Ellamavasye on January 1st, coinciding with New Year's day.  People from places like Moodabidri, Shirva, Belman, Kinnigoli, Mudrangadi, Inna and other places started arriving as early as 3 a.m. in the morning inspite of morning chill.  The sea was calm and the devotees had no problems to bathe in the sea.  Also "Pithr Pinda Pradhana" was performed after "Samudra Snana" (sea bath).   See more pictures

Young woman from Mulki dies in a fatal car accident in Dubai
Mulki, January 23rd, 2014:  32-year-old Babitha Rohith, a senior employee of Apple's Itunes, died in a fatal car accident on Dubai - Abu Dhabi highway on Tuesday morning.  She was going for a company meeting at Abu Dhabi, driving her own vehicle from her house in Dubai.  She had parked her car due to some road work in progress and a speeding four-wheeler rammed her car from behind.  Her car overturned a couple of times and its fuel tank caught fire.  As the flames engulfed the vehicle, Babitha had no way to escape .....  Read more

Mulki Town Panchayat election results:  Lotus blooms with BJP winning 11 seats
Mulki, January 29th, 2014: BJP won 11 out of 17 seats in Mulki Town Panchayat elections and came back to power after a decade.  The elections were held on Monday and the results were declared on Wednesday.  The congress could only 6 seats.  In the earlier council, congress had 9 seats, BJP had 7 and JD(S) had a single seat.  This time, BJP gained 4 seats, congress lost 3 seats and JD(S) lost 1 seat.  BJP's success is attributed to Modi wave, united and effective canvassing by Umanath Kotian and others.   ...  Read more
Work started for removal of controversial breakwater for UPCL's seawater pipeline
Padubidri, Jan. 31st, 2014:  Udupi district minister-in charge and Urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake initiated the work for the removal of controversial breakwater at Yermal Tenka, on Friday.  The breakwater for the seawater pipeline has been causing sea erosion for the last 3 - 4 years and damaging the fisheries road.  As per his assurance to the fishermen during his election campaign,, he had put pressure on senior officials of UPCL company and succeeded in getting a fund of Rs. 93 lakhs released.                   Read more

Mulki, February 7th, 2014:  Final rites of renowned freedom fighter and former MLA Dr. Sanjeevanath Aikala (95) were performed on Friday, February 7th.  He had breathed his last on Thursday morning at his residence near Karnad Markunja.  His body was kept at his residence "Sajami"  till 9.30 am on Friday to allow the public to pay their last respect.  Thereafter, the funeral procession was taken through Mulki bus stand on the way to Aikala.  It was also kept at the Jai Matha school grounds to allow the school children ... Padubidri, February 7th, 2014:  Chethan Padubidri from Kannada daily "Udayavani" has bagged "Mysore Diganta" award for the year 2012, for his article "Angavaikalya Addiyayithe?" published in Udayavani.  This was announced on Thursday by the Karnataka Media Academy from Bangalore.  The award included a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and the award ceremony will be held at Bangalore for which the date is not yet finalised. ACC's cement blending unit inside UPCL's power plant area inauguratged
Padubidri, February 9th, 2014:  ACC's cement blending unit was inauguraed by ACC company's South Zone Chief Executive P.N. Iyer on Sunday, February 9th. The unit was earlier planned to be set up in the Padebettu area, outside the power plant project area of Udupi Power Corporation Ltd. (UPCL). Padubidri, Ferbuary 13th, 2014:  The Avaral Matti road starting from Padubidri bus stand and passing through Suzlon project area has been always in the news due to accumulation of waste water from nearby hotels and emitting foul smell near old KEB building.  However, this problem was resolved by constructing a suitable waste water collecting system.  But now, people are facing a new problem.  The garbage is stewn all along the road till Bala Ganesha temple and the area is slowly becoming an unofficial dump yard..           Read more

Padebettu NTPC colony residents to protest against construction of ACC cement manufacuring unit
Padubidri, February 18th, 2014:  At a meeting held at Ayyappa Swami Bhajana Mandira on Monday evening, the residents of Padebettu NTPC colony have decided to protest against the construction of ACC's cement manufacturing unit in the area.  People from around 30 families, mainly labourers, are threatened of displacement due to the proposed unit.  They were earlier displaced for the proposed NTPC power plant project which was subsequently dropped.  They alleged that the politicians only give them assurance of record of rights during elections and fail to turn up after the elections. They have decided to meet DC hand over an appeal as an initial step and thereafter to send appeals to people's representative in state and central government.

Mulki bandh as a part of DK bandh is successful
Mulki, March 3rd, 2014:  There was a good response in Mulki hobli, for the DK district-level bandh call given on Monday to protest against the diversion of Netravati river.  People spontaneously supported the bandh and private vehicles, buses, taxis and autorickshaws were off the road.  Autorickswhaw, taxi and tempo stands were deserted.  In spite of Mulki being at the extreme border of DK district (at the border of Udupi district) vehicle owners, shops and other business establishments unitedly observed the bandh.   Read more

Padubidri, March 12th, 2014:  Padubidri is one of the busiest places on NH-66 and has been in the limelight due to the mega industries nearby and the controversy over highway four-laning project.  It has a well-maintained public toilet constructed around six years ago on the old KEB road,   at a distance of around 50 to 60 metres from Mangalore side bus stand.  As there are no direction signs, the visitors are clueless about its existance and roam around looking for toilet facility.  Many of them go to the nearby restaurants.         . People visiting Padubidri town unaware of public toilet facility near the bus stand

Padubidri, March 22nd 2014:  Annual Mohotsava was celebrated at Shri Mahalingeshwara Mahaganapathi temple from 14th March to 22nd March.  'Ratharohana' was on Friday, March 21st at 11.30 a.m. and Maha Rathotsava at night.  Famous 'Chendu was played on Saturday evening at 4 p.m.,  followed by Avabrhrithasnana, Bali Uatsava.  Dhwajaavarohana from 7 p.m. onwards.  Variety cultural programmes were organised by Vanadurga Friends, Padubidri.         See more pictures of Padubidri Rathotsava, Chenud and Thootedara
