NH-66 widening - Pro-bypass and Anti-bypass groups meet Congress leaders and NH Authority's Technical Dept. GM near Kalsanka
Padubidri, May 11th, 2012: Both pro-bypass and anti-bypass supporters met NHAI's Technical Department's Chief General Manager A.K. Mathur who was accompanied by senior congress leader Oscar Fernandes and newly elected Udupi-Chikmangalur congress MP Jayaprakash Hegde and other leaders, near Kalsanka in Padubidri on Friday evening. As they arrived, Dalit families led by DSS leader Shekhar Hejmady chanted slogans and displayed protest placards.
Speaking to the people gathered, NHAI's Chief General Manager (Technical Dept.) Mr. A.K. Mathur said the state government has already sanctioned bypass for Padubidri. "But after the protest from affected people, there would be one more round of talks with the officials of NH," he added. Senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes and MP Jayaprakash Hegde had initiated the visit after widespread protests in Padubidri from both the groups. After listening to both the groups Mr. Oscar Fernandes assured that after collecting the complete details from authorities, steps will be taken to resolve this problem with minimum expenditure and damage.
NHAI's Manager Gawasani and K.M. Hegde, Former minister Vasant V. Salian, Gangadhar Suvarna, M.A. Gafoor, Y. Sukumar, Mithun Hegde, Dr. N.T. Anchan, Maxim D'Souza, Santosh Kumar Shetty, Divakar Rao, Naveen N. Shetty, Dinakar Shenoy, Prashanth Shenoy, Sampath, Jaya Shetty, Suresh Shetty, Radhesh Shetty, Abdul Hameed, Rafeeq and others were present. There were around 70 people present.
